Dr. Matthew Abendroth is a quadruple-board-certified physician who founded Abendroth Modern Medicine to provide proactive, preventive, and personalized medical care that helps patients optimize their healthy longevity.

Dr. Abendroth has practiced outpatient medicine in Des Moines since 2014, first as a family physician at UnityPoint Clinic, then at his own clinic, Sana Vita Health — Iowa’s first Direct Primary Care clinic. He also co-founded a medical staffing agency, Highland Provider Staffing, through which he continues to work as an Emergency Medicine physician and hospitalist at critical access hospitals across the state.

He has seen countless examples of the consequences of suboptimal lifestyle choices, often culminating in life-altering (or life-ending) medical emergencies. Seeing the limits of traditional, purely reactive sick-care medicine led him to pursue fellowship training and board certifications in lifestyle, integrative, and functional medicine—fields that enable a deeper focus on prevention, root-cause healing, health optimization, and promoting healthy longevity & vitality.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Abendroth enjoys time with his family, strength training, cooking, sailing, and manual transmission sports cars, which, like his clinic, favor precision, performance, and connection.
